Shelter Neck Youth Camp - Counselors

We are currently accepting applications for summer camp counselors. We can also use volunteer cooks, nurses, activity leaders, lifeguards, camp assistants, drivers and others.  Join us for a wild week (or two) in the summer of 2017, or help us make it all happen!

 Counselors

Counselors lead activities, act as role models and are integral in creating an accepting, empowering UU community for campers.  Counselors are needed for Junior High Camp, High School Camp, or both!

Middle School Camp is an opportunity for 6th - 8th graders to experience a welcoming community, learn what makes UU youth so awesome and have lots of fun together.  Counselors lead or assist with activities including art, discussion, active games, silly events and youth-created activities.  Youth are encouraged to actively participate in their choice of programming each day.

High School Camp is an opportunity for 9th -12th graders to create a community based on UU values (like Continuous Revelation) and UU youth traditions (like Silent Football!).  Youth are encouraged to participate in creating activities, think about and question their beliefs, learn from each other, express themselves and have fun in a safe, supportive and empowering environment. Counselors act as role models, set limits, assist with activities and guide youth in creating community.

Counselors arrive a day or two before the camp session for training, last minute preparation and to prepare the facilities for camp.  Counselors are expected to be on-site, participating and available for the entire camp session (1 or 2 weeks), or a prearranged portion of the session.  Middle school programming runs from approximately 8am to 10pm every day and counselors are 'on call' and on-site throughout the night, while campers sleep.  High School is similar but programming starts a little bit later and ends a little bit later each day.

These opportunities offer a wealth of experience, learning and a great community.  Room and board are provided at our rustic camp while working.  A background check will be performed prior to hiring, including contact with references.

If you are interested in working with youth, familiar with Unitarian Universalist values, and ready for a challenging adventure, please fill out and submit the Counselor Application (see links below) or contact our Summer Camp Director.

We look forward to working with you!

Volunteers

There are plenty of other opportunities which do not require a large time commitment. For example, camp set-up, kitchen work, leading an afternoon or evening activity, or camp load-out. Please, volunteer to share your skills and talents during camp or throughout the year.  Please contact our Summer Camp Director if you would like to get involved.  youthcamps@shelterneckuucamp.org
